Government Industrial Training Institute Banihal (ITI) under the Directorate Technical Education of J&K was established in year 2010 by the Technical Education Department, Government of Jammu and Kashmir under the overall aegis of Directorate General Employment and Training (DGE&T), Ministry of labour and Employment, Government of IndiaNewDelhi.

This Institute is situated at halimaidan Nagam Banihal. Which is about 3km away from the main market of Banihal.

Industrial training institute Banihal is running under the Administrative control Of Directorate of Skill Development Jammu & Kashmir, implementing Craftsmen Training scheme sponsored by Director General Employment & Training (DGE&T) New Delhi.

• To provide vocational training to school leavers, existing workers, ITI graduates, etc. to improve their employability by optimally utilizing the infrastructure available in Govt. private institutions and the Industry. Existing skills of the persons can also be tested and certifies under this scheme.
• To build capacity in the area of development of competency standards, course curricula, learning material and assessment standards in the country.
• To develop a talent pool with the competence to take on the challenges of the present & future.
• Facilitates improvement in quality & quantity of individual contribution & provide a congenial work environment.

• Encouraging institutes for developing human resources to reduce the mismatch between demand and supply of manpower in various sectors like Engineering, Information Technology, Agriculture, Paramedical, Home Science, Trade & Commerce.
• To reduce unemployment among youth by equipping them for suitable industrial, self & wage employment through well-designed formal & non formal Vocational Education & Training programmes at Various institutes.
